This beautiful hike takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Kazbegi region, combining iconic sights with peaceful mountain trails and remote valleys.
A great way to start your adventure is by spending the night in Gudauri, a scenic mountain town that’s well-suited for relaxing before the hike. In the morning, take a taxi to Gergeti Trinity Church (2,170 meters), the trailhead for your journey.
From the church, follow the well-marked trail as it gradually climbs toward Altihut 3014, a modern and cozy mountain hut at 3,014 meters. The hike to Altihut takes around 3–4 hours, passing through open alpine meadows and offering dramatic views of Mount Kazbegi and its glacier.
You have two options here:
- Continue the hike the same day through the quiet and wild Toti Valley down to the village of Arsha, or
- Stay overnight at Altihut for a more relaxed experience. If you choose to stay, make sure to book your reservation in advance, as space is limited, especially during peak season.
If you continue the hike the same day or on the next morning, the trail leads gently down into Toti Valley, a peaceful and lesser-known area surrounded by cliffs and green hills. After a few hours of descent, you’ll arrive in Arsha, a small village in the valley below.
Be sure to arrange a taxi pickup in Arsha in advance for a smooth return to Gudauri or Stepantsminda.
